Fairytale

An age of empires translated into an age of turmoil for the southeast Asian country of the Philippines. Spain, longing to stretch its borders through colonies across the seas, would hold the seven-thousand island archipelago in its iron grip for over five hundred years. It was in this time of great change and upheaval that a small tribal people withdrew into seclusion, maintaining their balance with nature and finding solace in the winds. They knew that the land would be swept into chaos, as cultures merged and the ways of old waned like the moon at the coming of dawn. They knew this just as surely as they knew at Talim's birth that she would be their last priestess.

Born into a family of shamans and granddaughter of the village elder, Talim showed great affinity with the wind. She understood its movements and read its patterns. Her potential as priestess was unparalleled. On the day the Evil Seed began to spread throughout the world, the winds bore a message of malice and hatred that coursed through Talim's body, rendering her unconscious for days. In an instant, she had sensed that this violent power would devour all in its path.

Years later, when Talim was fifteen, a strange man came to their secluded village bearing a strange shard of metal. He hawked it as a vitality charm. But Talim knew, without a doubt, that the sinister aura emanating from the shard was the same cruel power that had come to her on the wind, years before. Against her parents' wishes and her own responsibility as the wind's last priestess, she set forth on a quest to return the shard to its rightful place. Talim firmly believed that this would bring peace, and silence the misgivings in her own heart. Not knowing that what she sought was actually the fabled Soul Edge, Talim travelled the world, often sensing the same evil in places where other seekers had passed.

Although she did not know where the journey would lead her, Talim followed her heart and put her faith in the winds that circled the earth, believing that just as they would bring her to her destination, they would also bring her home.

(And I wrote this myself, so please don't copy!)
